Mona Silavi is a human and women’s rights activist from the Ahwaz region in Iran. She obtained her bachelor in psychology and specialized in children and adolescence psychology at Damascus University, faculty of psychology and education. She holds a master degree in good governance and human rights in MENA region from Ca’ Foscari University in Venice. She started her activism in Damascus as member of Ahwazi Arab student association. Mona Silavi is a Project Officer at the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO) and is the coordinator for topics concerning freedom of religion and belief. She is also a spokesperson of the Al-Ahwaz Democratic Solidarity Party (DSPA). Since 2014 Ms Silavi lives in Belgium as a political refugee

Cristina is a Spanish journalist based in London, she holds master’s degree in Journalism, Media and Globalisation at City University London and Aarhus University (Denmark). She has a keen interest in sustainable development and human rights and she curates -mostly- stories related to the Sustainable Development Goals. She has previous worked for United Nations and now collaborates with various publications such as El País, Chatham House, Huffington Post, Equal Times or eldiario.es.

Elvia Wilk is a writer and editor living in New York and Berlin, covering art, architecture, urbanism, and technology. She contributes to publications like Frieze, Artforum, e-flux, die Zeit, the Architectural Review, and Metropolis. She's currently a contributing editor at e-flux Journal and Rhizome.

I am a scholar of International Relations of the Middle East. My research focuses on Middle East security, political violence and logic of warfare, as well as competition and cooperation between regular and irregular armed groups. I am currently a Lecturer in Middle East Politics and International Relations at the Leiden Institute for Area Studies (LIAS), Leiden University.

Rosebell is a multimedia communications specialist, journalist and award-winning blogger with experience in gender, peace and conflict. Currently works on public interest litigation for gender justice with focus on Latin America -Africa learning. Rosebell holds a Masters in media, peace and conflict studies from the University for Peace in Costa Rica. She is a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader.

Dr. Sarphan Uzunoğlu is an Associate Professor in UiT Arctic University of Norway Language and Culture Department. He was previously a senior lecturer at Kadir Has University (Istanbul) across New Media, Public Relations and Information Departments. Dr. Uzunoğlu is also a founder of Newslabturkey.org, Journo.com.tr, TGS Academy (Journalists’ Union of Turkey Academy) and Media Innovation and Technology Network of Turkey (mint360.org), as well as a regular contributor to Punto 24, Medyapod podcast network and other independent media organisations. Dr. Uzunoğlu received his Ph.D. from Galatasaray University Media and Communication Studies Programme. He completed his graduate studies at Kadir Has University via the Turkcell Technology Leaders Scholarship, and his undergraduate studies at Izmir University of Economics.

Erdem Arda Güneş is an Istanbul based political analyst. After graduating from University of Ankara's Political Sciences Faculty, International Relations department he started working as a politics/diplomacy reporter for Hürriyet Daily News. He received journalism education at the Berkeley and Minnesota Universities in 2013. He did interviews for various national and international media outlets focusing on diplomacy, politics and arts. Now works as a press advisor and political analyst for an international organization.

I am an Australian freelance journalist focussing on conflicts, politics, and warzones around the world. I have been working as a journalist for over 5 years, having reported from Australia, Germany, China, Egypt, Palestine, and Ukraine. I am especially interested in the way that new technologies are being used in conflict zones in unexpected and often disturbing ways. Daria Sukharchuk is a journalist based in Berlin, where she works as a news anchor for Russian-language OstWest.tv. Her writing has appeared in Motherboard and ZEIT Online, Cosmopolitan, as well as Afisha (Moscow's leading city magazine). She specializes on the topic of human rights, migration, and mental health.
She has her BA in Chinese history, and, never having forgotten her history background, has also contributed to the educational project1917.com.

Neil Hauer is an independent analyst focused on Syria, Russia, and the Caucasus. Based in Tbilisi, Georgia, he served as senior intelligence analyst at The SecDev Group, an Ottawa-based geopolitical risk consultancy, for three years. He is presently engaged primarily on Russia’s role in the Syrian conflict.

Annie Hylton is an international investigative journalist from Canada. She writes about gender, immigration, human rights, and conflict, and has worked in East Africa, the Middle East, Central America, and elsewhere. She teaches journalism at Sciences Po in Paris and was a former international lawyer focusing on situations of conflict. Hylton is a graduate of Columbia University’s Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism and also holds a J.D. and Master of Laws in international humanitarian law.

Raksha Kumar is a multimedia journalist focusing on human rights, politics and social injustices. Since 2011, she has reported for The New York Times, BBC, Guardian, TIME, South China Morning Post, Foreign Policy, Scroll.in and The Hindu.

In March 2018, she was awarded the National Foundation for India Media Award for her reportage on land rights in India. In 2017, she was shortlisted for Kurt Schork Memorial Awards in International Journalism. For her work on land conflicts in India, she was awarded the Chameli Devi Award for Outstanding Media Personality in 2016.

As a reporter, her focus areas are land and forest rights of the most vulnerable communities. However, since these issues cannot be looked at in isolation, Raksha found herself increasingly reporting on armed conflict around resource extraction in places like Chhattisgarh and Kashmir.

In 2015, she wrote, shot and directed a documentary film on Rationalists in Contemporary India. It was aired by India's public broadcaster, Doordarshan. The film has been screened in 29 locations across the country until now.

The same year, Raksha was selected as a Chevening Fellow by the University of Westminster to research on Hindu Right in the UK. This helped Raksha build on her post graduate dissertation which was on Hindu Fundamentalists in India.

With a Fulbright Scholarship for Leadership Development, she went to the Columbia University in New York City to pursue a Masters in Science. As a student, she was offered the Scripps Howard Fellowship to report from Israel and the West Bank. Since 2011, Raksha has reported from 11 countries across the world.

Raksha worked as an editor at NDTV, leading English news channel in India. She was the editorial head of a two-hour prime time news show, where she lead a team of about 20 junior journalists.

A graduate of Lady Shri Ram College in New Delhi, Raksha was a dedicated student and a passionate public speaker.

Emran Feroz is an Afghan-Austrian journalist currently based in Stuttgart, Germany. He is regularly writing from Afghanistan, often focusing on the Middle East, Central Asia, drone warfare, refugee policies and human rights. Emran is writing in both German and English. His work has already appeared in international media outlets such as Al Jazeera, The Intercept, Alternet, The Atlantic or the New York Times and in various German and Austrian news papers and magazines.

Educated at Oxford, Mark's main interests lie in economic history and comparative development. He is currently writing a book (with Noel Johnson) on the origins of religious freedom in western Europe. He has also published papers on state formation in Europe and China, weather shocks and pogroms in the middle ages, and private policing in 19th century England. Will Kherbek is the writer of the novels Ecology of Secrets (2013) and ULTRALIFE (2016), both published by Arcadia Missa. His Ph.D. was granted by the University of London in 2014. In 2018, the poetry collections 26 Ideologies for Aspiring Ideologists (If a Leaf Falls Press) and Everyday Luxuries (Arcadia Missa) were published. Kherbek is also the writer of the essay "Technofeudalism and the Tragedy of the Commons" (2016) which appeared in the debut issue of Doggerland's journal. The essay considers the role of information in the writing of the Nobel Prize winning economist, Elinor Ostrom, in relation to the concept of the "tragedy of the commons" as formulated by Garrett Hardin. He has written about high frequency trading and finance for the award-winning German language publication, BLOCK, and has consulted and appeared at events with the conveners of the Alternative School of Economics and Rabbits Road Institute in London. Nuala Lam is a bilingual freelance journalist with a focus on civil society, justice, and identity in China. She speaks, reads and writes Mandarin Chinese and forms her analysis of contemporary China through both English and Chinese language media. She has worked for NGOs and news media in Beijing and Shanghai and has also spent extended periods in the Chinese countryside, seeing the country's diversity and uneven development first-hand.

Her postgraduate research at the London School of Economics focussed on English-language coverage of China, investigating the translation of journalistic ethics between differing political contexts.
