In 2018, IS suicide bombers attacked the Maiwand wrestling club in the middle of Kabul. Twenty-six people were killed.
Two months later, the club re-opened.
In this interview, Ghulam Abbas, the gym's trainer, talks about his work and the war in Afghanistan. Abbas himself lost his arm in the last attack. His club did not just face the recent years of conflict, but also the civil war in the 1990s and the rise of the Taliban.
Abbas never doubted he would return to the Maiwand wrestling club after the IS attack. While in hospital, hundreds of visitors showed up by his bedside.
After his recovery, he paid for the repairs to the club building himself. Today, more than 100 students are visiting the gym every day.
