2017 was the year of cannabis; the multi-billion dollar industry made its way into the mainstream, and ushered in a new wave of everything weed-inspired. Shelves are lined with thousands of new applications for cannabis – (m)edibles, topicals, vaporizers – and even the good ‘ole fashioned herb saw a newfound appreciation.
Here are “Rolling Stone’s” top picks of 2017, or as the author puts it, “five great options for celebrating the end of one really weird year:”
Girl Scout Cookies (aka GSC, or Platinum Cookies): This indica-dominant hybrid strain is one of America’s most popular, and one of the most searched strains of the year, according to Cannacopia. GSC is high in THC (between 22-30 percent), and typically favored as a “party” strain. Uses: reduced anxiety, pain, loss of appetite.
GG4 (Gorilla Glue No. 4): This strain gets its name from the dense, sticky trichomes that embrace each bud. It’s also known for inducing the “couchlock” feeling (or feeling of being stuck to the couch) due to the relaxation it provokes.
Green Crack (Cush): “The energizing strain was bred from 1970s-born Skunk No. 1 and an unknown Afghani sativa, making it the cannabis equivalent to a cup of strong coffee,” said author, Beca Grimm.
Alaskan Thunder Fuck (a.k.a. ATF, Matanuska Thunder Fuck, Matanuska Tundra and Thunder): This popular sativa strain is usually heavy in THC (about 20 percent). The high is said to be slow, uplifting… and munchie-provoking.
Avidekel: The strain was developed in Israel and is dubbed the world’s first highless marijuana. It’s a highly medicinal strain, which eases insomnia, digestion, inflammation, etc. Avidekel is high in CBD (18 percent), and contains only traces (less than 1 percent) of THC.
