How Louis C.K.'s Possible Comeback Could Benefit The #MeToo Movement

A lot has been said in these five months after Louis C.K.’s response to the famous sexual misconduct accusations. Louis’ career is so far down that to imagine a comeback is not only hard but, for many people, uncomfortable and a trigger for rage. However, could this hypothetical comeback benefit the #MeToo cause in any way?

The signatures of C.K.’s comedy are self-realization, self-observation and, above it all, raw and hurtful honesty.

Aida Rodriguez, whose comedy is fierce on female empowerment [...] Said “But if we stay on a war footing with this, we’ll never find solutions.” Rodriguez says C.K.'s audience was not only huge but was filled with young men. “He has the chance to atone and to educate,” “If he uses the opportunity to address his shortcomings, maybe he can change a few minds among his fans and maybe he can save a couple of girls from unnecessary and unwanted incidents.”

Not every action falls in the same category. And no, Harvey Weinstein’s abhorrent actions should not be placed next to Louis C.K.’s. It is simply, by far, not the same thing. So how long should he remain in the shadows? For how long should he be socially punished and shamed? And if the answer is forever, do we then lose a great opportunity for approaching empowerment and understanding from a whole different angle?
