Growing Up As A Female In The Gaza Strip

A photographic essay by Monique Jaques that offers an intimate look at the life of young women living in the Gaza Strip, one of the world's more challenging places.

After spending some time in Gaza, while covering the 2004 war with Israel, Jaques understood that women face more challenges when living in conflict areas.

There is a lot of pressure on them as daughters, as sisters and wives.

Most of the women photographed by Jaques only know Gaza, but all of them dream of leaving.

The captions of her pictures tell the struggle, but also the hope and strength that can be found in the women of Gaza.
