The short documentary shows one week in the life of an Indian company that is contracted to moderate social media websites. Their main task is to remove pornographic, violent and offensive content from Facebook and a number of other sites, as well as verify the new users on dating platforms.
A week is how long the introductory course for new employees lasts. Over the course of the week, they are taught to see the unacceptable level of nudity and violence. We cannot see what they are shown (all the pictures are blurred), but we get an idea from this Guardian story on the moderators behind Facebook. I only wish that this film gave more detail about the effect this job has on moderators and their everyday lives.A teacher, who comes across as very confident, says that "he is a good moderator because he doesn't let it affect him", and that this content is "only pictures" – but is that really so? How long can a person last on a job like this?
