Did you ever notice that some people don't make eye contact with you, that others tend to touch you on the arm, that still others tend to look up? If you learn the three types of brain processing styles, you can begin looking for the clues that will help you build an easy rapport with coworkers, neighbors, or people you are meeting for the first time.
Body language expert Lynne Franklin taught the audience at a TedX event how to spot the body language used by each of the three types of thinkers: 75 percent of people are classified as “lookers”; 20 percent are “listeners”; and 5 percent are “touchers”.
Before learning the languages, her dealings with a certain co-worker always led to misunderstanding. The reason he didn't look at her, or looked below her face was not that he was looking at her chest, it was because he was a "listener".
“Their body language will tell you all day long what their primary style is. You just need to know what to look for and what to do when you see it – and it’s not like ... ‘she’s leaning back, her arms are crossed, and she’s frowning so she must be unhappy’. It’s actually understanding how their brains work and then presenting your information in a way that people can see it, hear it, and feel it. It’ll increase the chances that they’ll say yes to whatever you’re proposing.”
Franklin's book “Getting Others to Do What You Want”, is a culmination of her vast knowledge of the brain and the way people think and behave.
