How Biohacking May Be Changing Wellness

This somewhat speculative piece has made the rounds on social media and it has some golden thought nuggets. It takes the starting point in the report ‘Wellness 2030: The new techniques of happiness’ and then makes some surprising, biohacking-linked predictions. It highlights a few trends for the future of wellness:

Biohacking will be a shortcut to wellbeing

Emerging technologies are enabling us to “change the genetic material of organisms”. In the long perspective, these inventions will change the conditions of wellness to the core and play a significant role in making us healthier, happier, beings.

Wellness is social — make people happier and healthier together

Humans are social creatures and at the same time studies show that loneliness is increasing. Emerging technologies may be able to increase wellness by, for example, algorithms that may choose our partners and friends for us better than we can ourselves.

Biofeedback replaces surveys for consumer insight

Sensors on our bodies and in our homes can read facial expressions and stress, and analyse human behaviour and moods in a hitherto unseen capacity. ‘Local mood reports’ will become common, and companies will be able to tell what makes consumers happy today and in the long run.
