SadaqaCoins, the “world’s first cryptocurrency crowdsource platform on the dark web for Jihadi fighters,” is officially live. It was only a matter of time until Western media started noticing that Jihadi groups have jumped on the cryptocurrency bandwagon.
Platforms like SadaqaCoins allow users to fund Jihadi forces through cryptocurrencies such as Ether and Bitcoin—which in itself is not new, as other platforms have done the same. Sadaqa is notable because it also allows crowdsourcing specific causes and projects. Fundable projects on the site include “equipping already trained and experienced Snipers.”
The potential ease of transactions may allow more financial traffic, but on the other hand security forces are finding ways to trace these transactions, which are not as anonymous as many assume—overall presenting a whole new host of challenges for counter-terrorism forces.
