I was born in 1987 in Bucharest. I studied Psychology and Educational Sciences at the University of Bucharest. For two years I worked in a psychotherapy practice, dealing with gambling addicts. I'm an independent reporter, writing and doing video reportages mostly about social and political issues. I am currently based in Jena.
Bodies deals with women’s issues that are usually dismissed from more public conversations as too intimate, and are thus reserved only for discussions with your closest friends. I’m talking about menstruation, menopause, breastfeeding, or pain during sex.
In the first episode of the series, Allison Behringer explores a very personal story: sex with her partner hurt. At first, she ignored it, just like many other women would do. Then she visited her gynaecologist, who told her she’s fine and that the pain, which is “part of the deal”, will eventually recede. But it didn’t. And in her search for answers to her problem, Behringer examines the bigger context of sexual and reproductive health, throughout history and science.
As a woman, I feel relief and gratitude that such topics — which are often ignored, or considered as normal in society — are taken out of the space of girlfriends' talk, discussed openly and questioned. And I can’t stress this enough: both men and women benefit from the conversation.
