It’s official: cannabis has gone mainstream. Now let’s talk about it like adults. The Guardian invites readers to do just that as turns its sights toward the industry with its newest column: “High time: a grown-up's guide to the cannabis revolution”.
As we enter 2018, all eyes will be on California as the state officially launches its recreational marijuana market — the largest legal cannabis market in the world. More will follow suit (and have, considering 30 states and counting have passed pro-cannabis policies).
While it was the first state in the U.S. to approve medical marijuana, California is not the first to go fully legal, “but with its outsized cultural influence and economy larger than France, it’s about to do for cannabis what Hollywood did for celluloid and Silicon Valley did for the semi-conductor,” said author Alex Halperin.
Discussions surrounding the topic have been met with stigma, mis-information, and ... lots of giggles. But, it’s an issue that affects criminal justice, health and wellness, and local and global economies. Not to mention usage and support for the plant is on the rise. Simply put, it’s no longer a laughing matter.
Cannabis deserves to be taken seriously. To that, “High time” kicks off with its profound platform dedicated to cannabis and its affects on lifestyle.
