"Only Human" is a podcast about relatable health issues, "because every body has a story". The podcast is about a person's life as it gets intertwines with and changed by the disease the person's suffering from. The novelty lies in the podcast's ability to really give you a sense of who that person was. It's not just the part about them being sick that sticks with you.
This episode covers Prodigy, the hip hop musician who died last year, and who influenced artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, and has been sampled by Mariah Carey and Lady Gaga. He suffered from sickle cell anemia, a disease that causes unbearable pain to its sufferer.
It's a story about this disease, that affects about 100.000 Americans, mostly black men, "about race and institutional neglect, about who gets care in the USA and why; and it's a story about an MC whose influence is still felt today, whose music you can get only if you understand his life with sickle cell."
And if you need another reason to give it a listen—there's great music throughout the episode.
