'You Are Fired!': Impeaching Trump Is As Close Or As Remote As It Can Be

As Donald Trump continues to send shockwaves at home and across the globe by endless series of tactics and moves which are unprecedented in the history of the USA, the notion of invocation of the Twenty-fifth Amendment becomes increasingly acute. Trump's critics are exploring the path to impeachment or the invocation which allows for the replacement of a President who is judged to be mentally unfit.

During the past few months, Evan Osnos interviewed several dozen people about the prospects of cutting short Trump’s Presidency. He spoke to his friends and advisers, lawmakers and attorneys who are experts on impeachments; he talked to physicians and historians, current members of the Senate, the House, and the intelligence services.

Some of his sources maintained that laws and politics protect the President to a high degree, but others argued that he has already set in motion a process of his undoing. Yet all agree that Trump is unlike his predecessors in ways that intensify his political, legal, and personal risks. He is the first President with no prior experience in government or the military, the first to retain ownership of a business empire, and the oldest person ever to assume the Presidency. And, his approval rating is forty per cent—the lowest of any newly elected President since Gallup started measuring it—which makes it very difficult, if not impossible, to run the country for four years.

In this deep-digging piece, Osnos tries to reach answers on two ways an American President can be removed from active duty: if he/she is 'mentally unfit' or he/she is found responsible of 'malpractice or neglect of duty' (such as 'treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.'

The question is: how feasible are they?
