Every year, thousands of migrants drown in the Mediterranean. But while the EU blames NGOs for the crisis, it does not want to acknowledge that its current system and politicies are a main part of the problem.
Constantly, EU politicians have avoided taking any kind of responsibility for the current crisis. Meanwhile, the nightmare has even reached a new peak in Libya, where migrants have been tortured, abused, killed and are now being sold as slaves.
All these things did not come from nowhere. Mostly, they are direct results of the EU's migration and refugee policy which has been shaped over the last years.
While the EU does not act properly, NGOs do. For that reason, Brussels should not focus on those who help honestly. Instead, responsible politicians should take a look in the mirror and correct their own actions. Otherwise, the crisis will just increase - and cost more lives.
