When Do We “Impeach The Motherf*”?

In the first "Deconstructed" episode of 2019, Mehdi Hasan talks with Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, a self-declared democratic socialist and one of the first two Muslim American women and the first Palestinian American woman to be elected to Congress.

Tlaib recently made headlines when she demanded the impeachment of US President Donald Trump and called him a "motherfucker".

There are many reasons why Tlaib is so different from other American politicians, and she also defines that herself:

"Different. I am different. I’m different in how I serve not just because of my faith, not because I’m, you know, an Arab-American woman with this unique name and just kind of a unique approach to public service. But I’m different in a sense that I come from the third poorest congressional district in the country. The fact that you know half of my colleagues before I got here are millionaires. They’re an income bracket that is completely disconnected with the American people."

During her swearing-in, Tlaib weared a traditional Palestinian thobe and swore on the Holy Quran

Unsurprisingly, Tlaib is a harsh critic of Israeli politics. She regularly talks about human rights violations in Palestine and she is a staunch BDS supporter. Many of her political rivals tried to defame her because of that, but they were not successful.

I believe that women like her are the best examples for America's other face, which does not consist of Trump's visage but of truly inspirational people who stand up against racism and sexism and fight for equality, social justice and political progress.
