Francisco Cantú used to be a border patrol agent who worked at the Mexican border. Since the Clinton administration's Operation Gatekeeper, the border is highly secured and militarized. It has become very difficult for refugees and migrants from Southern and Central America to enter the United States.
In fact, the border patrol's job is to hunt all those fleeing from destruction and crisis and prevent them from entering.
Cantú, a third-generation Mexican-American himself, knows what he is talking about (he wrote a book about his experiences) when he reveals the crimes of the border patrol. He witnessed many of them with his own eyes or, even worse, participated in conducting them.
Border patrol agents made a lot of headlines during the last months. They have become known for destroying water containers left for refugees who cross the desert on foot or even for sending such people literally to death by luring them into a death zone where survival is impossible.
Long before Trump, Clinton knew that the desert in the borderlands was a natural barrier against unwanted arrivals.
