A few days ago, more than 100 people were killed by U.S. airstrikes in Somalia.
In a statement, the military claimed that all victims were militant Al-Shabaab fighters.
The statement was issued by AFRICOM (US Africa Command) whose headquarters are located in Stuttgart, Germany, and does not mention any civilian casualties.
However, after such airstrikes, no members of the U.S. military visits the sites. For that reason, they do not know the identities of the victims, they just assume them.
And after a few days, the whole massacre is forgotten.
Unsurprisingly, observers do not really want to believe the Pentagon's version:
“While the Pentagon insists that no civilians are being killed in these strikes, we know that without much more information from the ground, those claims should be treated with real scepticism,” Chris Cole, director of Drone Wars UK, said.
Additionally, the latest strike in Somalia shows the escalation of the U.S. military campaigns all over the world since Donald Trump took over the White House.
