On October 7th 2001, the United States conducted its very first drone strike in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar.
Historically, it was the first attack of an armed drone.
The alleged target was Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar. A compound was hit by Hellfire missiles. Dozens of people were killed. But as we know today, Omar died naturally more than a decade later.
So who has been killed on that day? Who were the Afghans who died instead of Omar? Militants or innocent civilians?
These questions are still unanswered. And as they remain unanswered, Afghanistan, over more than 16 years of "War on Terror", has become the most drone bombed country in the world.
For that reason, those who are still getting killed regularly remain faceless and invisible. It began in Kandahar from the very first day on.
