I will admit it. Every time a new international incident sparks that involves the U.S. or Donald Trump, I run to check his Twitter feed.

I was surprised to see that he didn't react to any of President Erdogan's comments about the U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Donald Trump shows his "spontaneity" on Twitter every time he has a chance, and it is causing heartburn among U.S. national-security professionals.

In this piece for The Atlantic, Krishnadev Calamur makes a compilation of the President's less diplomatic tweets, which have caused his administration legal problems and numerous diplomatic incidents.

"In some cases, his Cabinet officials have tried to articulate U.S. policy to allies and adversaries alike, only to be undercut by a conflicting tweet from the president."

The "dumb deal" with Australia for resettling refugees, the mysterious "Swedish incident", the criticism to London mayor Sadiq Khan right after London's attack, Qatar, and "Rocket Man" ... are just a few of Trump's blunders.

Calamur argues at the end that perhaps the importance of Trump's tweets is overstated, as the foreign-policy bureaucracy still works the same pace it did in prior administrations.

But, that the U.S. might still have no substitute as a military and economic power, doesn't mean there is no damage.
