Dispatches From The American–Mexican Border

Considering the news of recent weeks and months, it appears that the American–Mexican border has become one of the most desperate places on the planet.

Regularly, refugees from Southern America try to reach the United States by passing the dangerous route through the super-militarized border.

During recent years, thousands of people have died in the desert. Or, to be more precise: They have been murdered.

It is well known that US Border Patrol agents hunt refugees, destroy water and food reserves, and even lure people in the wrong direction to let them die in the heat of the desert.

In this worth-listening-to episode of the New York Times' "The Daily" podcast, reporter Azam Ahmed and photojournalist Meridith Kohut explain what they faced when they crossed the border to explore the "other site" in Mexico and to talk with those who are directly affected by the US government's anti-refugee policies.
