Brexit Chaos: Trying To Understand It From A Remain Perspective

Brexit is reaching its decisive point. But no one yet has the slightest idea of what's going to happen. Neither Theresa May, nor any EU leader, nor anyone in the entire world. It's complete chaos

The Prime Minister postponed the crucial vote to pass her deal on Parliament because she didn't have enough support. Now she expects to get something more from the EU, but from Angela Merkel to Donald Tusk, all leading European politicians are ruling out the possibility of reopening negotiations.

And time is running out: only three months till doomsday.

Every single option is open. A second referendum? A general election? May faces huge divisions in her party, but Labour MPs also have to deal with the fact that many of their constituencies voted overwhelmingly in favour of Brexit. Uncertainty everywhere.

That's why it's more important than ever to tune in. Here is one (of many) interesting option to follow events. The New European weekly podcast on Brexit. The latest episode is a week old, but couldn't be more aptly titled: "Chaos, chaos and more chaos".

In a very British style, with lots of humor and irony, Richard Porritt, Steve Anglesey and Geri Scott discuss what they call "the madness that is Planet Brexit". After singing Coldplay and an anecdote about running into Gwyneth Paltrow, they dive into the issue: insights, predictions and analysis on the most crucial points, especially on the Irish backstop

You might find the podcast a bit complicated if you aren't familiar with British politics, but it's worth a try because you will learn a lot about the people and institutions pushing for Brexit, all the contradictions of the British society and its very deep polarisation.

In this regard, it's very important to underline that this is a partisan podcast. "Stay angry, fight Brexit" is their motto. But it goes beyond that because they are supported by Progress, a Blairite group highly critical of Jeremy Corbyn's departure from the policies pursued by New Labour.
