Emran Feroz is an Afghan-Austrian journalist currently based in Stuttgart, Germany. He is regularly writing from Afghanistan, often focusing on the Middle East, Central Asia, drone warfare, refugee policies and human rights. Emran is writing in both German and English. His work has already appeared in international media outlets such as Al Jazeera, The Intercept, Alternet, The Atlantic or the New York Times and in various German and Austrian news papers and magazines.
A New Must-Hear: The Arab Tyrant Manual
The Arab Tyrant Manual is a new podcast that aims to understand authoritarianism worldwide and its logic, incentives and strategies.
As one of the podcast's founders Ahmed Gatnash recently said, the "Arab is just for flavour, like the French in French fries", which means that the focus does not solely lie on Arab countries.
Gatnash created the podcast with activist and writer Iyad El-Baghdadi, and it is already doing well. The Arab Tyrant Manual has developed a wide listenership among think-tankers, policymakers and diplomats in the west, as well as thousands of people in the MENA region.
Both Gatnash and El-Baghdadi hope to build that into the most comprehensive online platform for understanding systems of authoritarianism and how they interconnect and function similarly—from Sudan, Saudi Arabia and Syria to Afghanistan, Russia and other countries.
