What It's Like To Be A Young Ukrainian In A War Zone

The war in Ukraine has gone on for three years, three months and three days, leaving behind an estimated 10,000 killed, 24,000 wounded, 4,000 missing, and forcing over 2.5 million people to abandon their homes.

Anastasia Vlasova documented the horrors of war in the battlefield, work for which she received an honorable mention from the IWMF 2015 Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism Award due to "a connection with the people and the extent of suffering they endure and uncovering the truth of war crimes from both sides". However, tired of covering the front line, she turned to document the life of the local youth to discover the repercussions of war on children and the abilities of adaptation that are developed by society.

Her photographs manage to portray their daily lives with a large range of feelings and actions, showing us teenagers learning to integrate war into their lifestyles with humble bravery and hope.
