Suspended — How Does The Balkan Route Look Today?

In 2015, over 800,000 used the so called Balkan Route to go from Turkey to Europe. Through Greece, Macedonia, Serbia, for a moment Hungary, later Croatia, Slovenia to Austria and Germany.

After the "EU deal" — a special agreement between EU member states and Turkey — the number of asylum seekers has decreased, and so did the mass media attention.

We wanted to show how does the route look today. What happens to people who still arrive. What is the procedure they go through. Most of them will end up in organized camps awaiting legal process, which takes months and in some cases years.

Three camps in Lesbos — Pikpa, Kara Tepe and Moria. Elaonas in Athens. One in Cyprus — Kofinou. Serbia and then transit zone in Hungary. Each different. With different reason for existence.
