Puck Soup is a weekly series by NHL journalists Greg Wyshynski, Ryan Lambert and Down Goes Brown. The podcast covers a wide swath of the hockey world with some general goofing around thrown in.
I've been wanting to check out this podcast for a while and had to do it after Lambert's incredible run-in with a local Edmonton sports media hack on Twitter this past week, so I fired it up. It's a hefty commitment at nearly two hours, but the chemistry between the three hosts is lights-out. It feels like sitting around with some of your buddies shooting the shit about hockey, except these guys actually know stuff.
It's a great balance between serious analytics and irreverence, with the phone-in interview (with Minnesota Wild beat writer Michael Russo) breaking up the segment and adding some nice specialized insight. Right before the guys get back to laying into extremely deserving targets like the Edmonton Oilers front office, a topic I'm not sure how anyone can ever tire of.
Mind the runtime, but honestly, I don't think you'll notice. Well in the running for the most entertaining hockey podcast out there.
