Podcast: Code Switch Episode "It's Bigger Than The Ban" Investigates Islamophobia In The U.S.

National Public Radio show "Code Switch" investigates issues related to race and identity in the United States. It's a show I listen to regularly, for its critical, complex, in-depth and probing treatment of these extremely sensitive issues.

The most recent episode "It's Bigger Than The Ban" delves into the issue of Islamophobia in the United States—and it is captivating. Scholars who study Islamophobia have identified two primary inflection points in recent U.S. history after which hate crimes targeting Muslims became far more mainstream and widespread: One was the terrorist attacks of September 11th, and the other was the election of President Donald Trump.

The reporters look in-depth at how Islamophobia affects the lives of American Muslims through several stories, including the bullying of a high school student in Gilroy, as well as the experience of a Muslim school teacher. Definitely worth a listen.
