Podcast: British-Nigerian Actress Kelechi Okafar Featured On makingmoneymoves

"As black women we’re hyper visible yet invisible at the same time—we must carve out our own spaces and exist in them without apology," says Kelechi Okafor, a British-Nigerian actress, director and public speaker.

The wonderful hosts of the podcast makingmoneymoves are Janet Oganah, a Kenyan-born, London-based barrister and founder of Janet's List, a brand that helps buyers connect with and buy from niche brands by women of color, and Adonica Simmons, the British-Jamaican founding director of a UK based personal styling firm, Global Style Services.

Makingmoneymoves is brought to you by Janet’s List, hosted by Janet Oganah and Adonica Simmons. The aim of our podcast is to open up conversations about money, mind-set, and the moves people have made to build successful businesses. If you are a female entrepreneur, a high impact woman or are simply looking for inspiration, this podcast is for you. We interview inspiring guests, mostly women of colour, who are building incredible businesses. Our guests will also share tips and strategies, which you can apply at any stage of your entrepreneurial journey.

Many parts of this podcast resonate with me and especially given the current times: with people speaking out more against racism, sexism, mysogynoir, #metoo, the extra pressures that women (and especially black women) have to face in white or male dominated industries.

This podcast episode explores so many issues, including those of growing up as a migrant in the UK for Kelechi, trying to carve up space for yourself in areas that might not be receptive to you, creating opportunities for others as Issa Rae of the HBO show Insecurity has done. Kelechi also gets to talk about the substandard medical treatment that black women including Serena Williams get.

I love Kelechi's honesty and frankness and I am amazed by how much she's managed to do in such a short time. It's exciting to see a podcast focusing on business and women of colour.
