With the recent release of Michelle Obama's autobiographical memoir, Becoming, there is renewed interest in this phenomenal woman, whose memoir has been described as intimate, powerful and inspiring.
Michelle Obama talks about a diversity of topics in this podcast episode including her drive for girls' empowerment, her hair journey, the struggles of being an extremely intelligent and driven, powerful, black woman in a world that does not necessarily embrace this, parenting, and life as the first lady.
Michelle Obama also touches on several other issues including the double standard behind the idea of the angry black woman, how she wants her daughters to get to fully express themselves, and her miscarriage.
In the final minutes of the episode, Obama reads an excerpt from the book about what she means by Becoming. It's a lovely excerpt because she reflects on all that she's been able to do in her life, but with the humility to accept that she is still growing and learning. Hearing that from a woman who embodies all that #blackgirlmagic is, one cannot help but be inspired by Michelle's life journey from the South Side of Chicago to the global corridors of power.
