Losing Connor's Mind: The Race To Save A Child From A Genetic Death Sentence

This beautiful Atavist long-read chronicles a family's struggle to find a way to cure their three-year old child, Connor, who struggles with a rare genetic disorder called CLN2 disease.  Once likened to a kind of childhood dementia, children suffering from the rare disorder start losing words, then mobility, and eventually die.

It's a beautifully written piece that juxtaposes the challenges Connor's parents face in trying to find help for their son against the narrative of Dr. de los Reyes, a pediatric neurologist struggling to find a cure for the disease.

The two parts are woven expertly together by journalist Amitha Kalaichandran, whose article reads like a thriller.  A beautiful, moving and sad read.
