Is This The End Of The Human Rights Movement?

There is still room for hope but, according to David Rieff, the movement is facing the greatest test since it became a major participant in the international order.

Organisations such as Human Rights Watch (HRW) and Amnesty International warned about the status of human rights across the globe.

In 2017, for example, the executive director of HRW warned in the annual report that the rise of populism "threatens to reverse the accomplishments of the modern human rights movement".

Amnesty International sends a similar message in its 2017–2018 report. They also both agree on fighting back rather than surrendering to the new reality.

But how did we come to this situation in the first place? Was it inevitable?

An interesting analysis of what might have gone wrong with the human rights movement, reviewing the theories of human rights experts and advocates.
