Humanitarian Organisations Aren’t Always Staffed By Saints

It is reassuring to know that the UN is transparent about the misconduct of its staff and open about the crimes committed by members of it.

But some of the incidents listed by the UN's annual report are extremely grim: sexual exploitation, abuse of a minor, sexual harassment, racism, theft...

Despite the piece's lack of in-depth analysis, it mentions some interesting information to bear in mind: 

There might be transparency, but accountability is out of sight. 

For what we know, employees are dismissed or receive a "written censure" for their actions, but "there is no accounting for whether they were charged criminally." Even in the more mediatic cases, there is complete silence about the consequences.

Shouldn't we ask for more?
