Afghanistan is not solely a war-torn country. Other problems exist too. One of them is, like all over the world, climate change.
However, there are just a few reports about this severe threat. For example, I recently heard that a famous glacier in the northern province of Panjsher finally melted. Many locals were shocked about this development and never thought that it would take place.
The following report of Afghan journalist Humayoon Babur is a rare exception.
In Badghis, also in the country's north, people recently faced a drought that forced them to leave their land.
Other calamities are taking place too.
"A flood killed 19 villagers and 12 sheep of mine. The same flood also destroyed our pastures and the harvested fodder. There is nothing left. If you stay, it means to die gradually. So we were forced to leave," said Aynuddin Khan, a local.
The humanitarian response to such incidents is very limited. Organizations such as UNOCHA or the Norwegian Refugee Council are supporting some of the victims. But the majority has literally nothing.
Corruption and the inner structures of Afghanistan are a problem too. According to locals, some powerful people are stealing the aid of those who are really in need.
