Freelancers Are On Their Own (Against Harassment Too)

Writers, programmers, illustrators, audio producers. Who isn't a freelancer nowadays?

According to a survey conducted by the Freelance Union, in the U.S., half the millennials are freelancing in some capacity. Most of them are women. By 2027, the majority of American workers will be freelancers. 

Increased freedom, independence to choose your working hours, the possibility to travel the world ... freelancing is great, but there are also some downsides. 

As a freelancer, you are on your own at all levels. Including fighting discrimination and harassment. I've never thought of that before, and I am a freelancer myself. Perhaps you are too, and that's why you should listen to this podcast.

You might be working from home, away from inappropriate looks or touching, but digital communications is still communication. This means you are still exposed to inappropriate comments, pictures, or situations. 

According to Emma Denny, a lawyer specialized in workplace harassment litigation, in the U.S., your level of protection depends on the state you are based. Apparently, Minnesota has one of the most protective laws in this regard, but as a freelancer, you are generally on your own.
