Comic Illustrations: Growing Up In Assad's Syria

Worthwhile comic illustrations that show the story of a Syrian-Danish family who grew up in "Assad's Syria".

The story begins in 1978, when Hafez al Assad, father of the current president Bashar, was in power.

At the time, many parts of the brutal regime, including its infamous intelligence services and its brutal torture prisons, were already installed.

Oppression and mass murder were part of daily life.

Children were the main targets of the regime's propaganda. Their indoctrination began in school, where military education and worshipping Assad and his Ba'ath Party were part of the curriculum. Also, mental and physical abuse were considered normal.

The reason was simple: The next army of the dictator had to be fit to defeat its enemies.
