The title of the podcast instantly drew me in. The diversity of the different episodes resonated with me. I decided to start with the episode on a Sangoma — a spiritual healer in Zulu tradition. I recognized the term Sangoma and was curious to learn the story of this particular one.
Gogo tells the story of her Christian upbringing in Burkina Faso and how she felt drawn to look for answers about life, but never found those answers in the religion of her birth. Constantly searching, she realized that the only way she was going to find her chosen spiritual path was by completely unlearning everything she had been taught growing up in a religious home and starting afresh.
I love when she says that, had she been born anywhere else, she would likely have been following the religion of her place of birth — by default. As such, the only way she could really find her own path was by erasing everything and starting afresh. This is how this modern African woman began her path to becoming a priestess.
This was such a sweet conversation of soulful relationship through one’s lineage. Gogo Thule Ngane is a Sangoma Traditional Healer, Priestess, and Medicine Woman. She is guided by the Amadlozi, Elevated Ancestors of her lineage. We talk between the lines of time, connecting on how she connects and is called to serve her soul gifts.
The podcast was started by a biracial woman of Japanese & Western–European descent who wanted to decolonize her experience and create a safe space for diverse voices (especially on spirituality) to be heard and celebrated.
I’ve often felt like a wanderer in the wind, unsure if what I do in the world matters. Storytelling, for me, has become the thread that keeps me tethered to the Soul of the world, to you, to all that is possible and all that needs wholing. The Witches Muse came about to support the sacred art of storytelling, in deep, inclusive and meaningful ways.
