Born in the south of Mexico, she was raised in rebel Zapatista autonomous municipalities to later settle down in San Cristobal de las Casas where she cofounded ''La Casa de las Flores'', a non-profit dedicated to educate, feed and care for the marginalized children living on extreme poverty in the streets of her city. After graduating from Nursing school she enrolled in Biotechnology and Astrophysics.
Mongolia, China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Turkey, Bulgaria, Hungary, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France and finally England are the countries which Baigalmaa ‘’Baikal’’ Norjmaa will traverse with the company of her camel. She will endure extreme conditions and misogynist cultures on her journey to London which will take her three years to complete.
The Mongolian 30-year-old woman misses her toddler daughter above anything else, however she hopes to make her proud and to empower her into accomplishing her ambitions.
She was first inspired by Australian explorer Tim Cope, who travelled from Mongolia to Hungary by horse. If a foreigner could do it, so could a Mongolian. If a man could, so could a woman. Camels have always been very important beings in her country, therefore that would be the ideal animal for this journey.
The idea swam unsure in her brain for some time until she met Karl Bushby (Bushby has been walking nonstop for twenty years, hoping to become the first person to cross the Earth by foot) who gave her the last push she needed to embark herself into the adventure.
Her story is fascinating and thrilling to follow. Here I leave to you the very beginning of it.
