There’s not much evidence around how to fight gender-based violence. In fact, it’s a “substantially neglected” area of research, according to the Sexual Violence Research Initiative, a South Africa-based group, despite affecting 35 percent of women worldwide. As a result, the group is partnering with the World Bank to invest in new ideas and solutions to fight the issue through the Development Marketplace Awards.
Creative ideas about how to protect girls and women from violence or sexual assault are welcome. Some of the potential solutions awarded include a sports-themed gender equality workshop for teens in Papua New Guinea, and a "walking bus" from South Africa, whereby adult chaperones accompany children on their walk to school.
