piqer for: Climate and Environment Global finds Globalization and politics
I'm a freelance journalist, currently based in Madrid. I used to be a News Producer at CNBC in London before, but I thought a little bit more sun might do me good. Now I write for several news organizations, covering a range of topics, from Spanish politics and human rights for Deutsche Welle to climate change for La Marea.
This week and the next, world leaders meet in Katowice, Poland for COP24, the planet's most important climate summit, organized under the UN umbrella. This COP (or Conference of the Parties) is perceived as a crucial meeting to set out the policies that would let us avoid the worst impacts of climate change. It's considered so important that it has been dubbed as "Paris 2.0", in reference to the landmark climate deal signed in 2015.
When it comes to climate diplomacy, Climate Home News is the place to go. This small team based in London has specialized in following the intricacies of the international relations of global warming. After years of hard work, they have accumulated unmatched expertise and experience. They're also really good with other angles of climate change, but it's when it comes to diplomacy that they truly shine. I don't get my COP info anywhere else.
I was, therefore, really happy to see they're producing a daily podcast from Katowice. The pieces are between 10 and 15 minutes long, and they include a news report and a longer, deeper look at some of the topics discussed in the summit. They are usually published in the evening, and it's a great way to catch up on the basics of what has happened during the day in Poland, if you haven't had a chance to read the news.
The podcast is hosted on Soundcloud, so it's pretty easy to access either via PC or on your phone. However, be advised that there's another CopCast (dedicated to police matters), so you may have some trouble finding it on the usual platforms.
