400 Individuals Raised £2.8m In 2 Weeks To Refinance A Community Wind Farm

Well, this is BIG news! The Mean Moor wind farm in Cumbria, previously owned by a commercial developer, now belongs to the community.

How did that happen? Well, 400 human beings raised £2.8m (with the minimum investment of £500 and maximum at £50,000) in just two weeks!

"The purchase demonstrates the ability of the community sector to operate in the commercial world and reflects the appetite for greater community ownership of renewable energy as an end in itself, especially important as the challenges for developing new onshore renewable electricity projects continue to grow" highlights the author.

It also proves the value of new funding models, such as the 'Thrive Community Bridge’.
