Will AI (Artificial Intelligence) be the end of humanity? Well, that depends on what you mean by "AI" — because, despite Elon Musk's oft-reported warnings about the threat of computer-based intelligence, many data-computer-experts say there is "no such thing" [as artificial intelligence] just yet, and that what the media loves to label as AI is, more often than not, just plain old Machine Learning or ML, which sounds a whole bunch less-scary, but might still take our jobs.
This short piece on Quartz is a handy little thought primer that outlines the semantics of AI and ML, and why the differences between the two matter.
Also: a repeat reminder that the real threat to humanity and our planet right now is...other humans; and, how they choose to apply or deploy technological advances in their efforts to kill or dominate the humans that they "other". If you're more worried about kill-drones than the men controlling them, it's time for a slightly sobering reality check.
