The Southern Hemisphere's First Cannabis Museum

In 2013, Uruguay became the first country to fully legalise cannabis. As leaders of international, progressive drug reform, Uruguayans welcomed the museum, which opened in the country’s capital city of Montevideo in December of 2016.

The museum is intended to be a “cultural club” for the plant’s “biological and cultural diversity”. Exhibits take visitors through the process of legalisation and the country’s approach to drug consumption as a public health concern. Also included are gardens that showcase various strains of cannabis, relics, a café and music.
