The "Highless" Marijuana Strain

In 2012 Tikun Olam – Israel’s first operation to receive a government issued license to grow and supply medicinal cannabis – released one of the world’s first “highless” cannabis strains.

The strain, called Avidekel, contains approximately 15-18 per cent CBD, and only traces of THC (one per cent or less). Today, the strain comes in flower, tinctures and oils, and is scientifically proven to treat symptoms of autoimmune diseases like MS or ALS, seizures, migraines and fibromyalgia.

Cannabiniol, or CBD, and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are just two of the plant’s compounds, and perhaps the most popular. CBD most notably helps to battle inflammation and pain, and THC is infamous for its psychoactive effects. Though there are traces of THC in Avidekel, the strain won’t get people high; it can be used all times of the day or night with little to no side effects.

While the company began developing the strain more than five years ago, CBD dominant products have become increasingly popular for those seeking relief, but not a high, from cannabis.

Avidekel, and all of Tikun Olam’s scientifically tested strains, are intended for medicinal uses only. The company is one of several in Israel to lead the research and development of cannabis as medicine.
