Since his Kremlin contact has been revealed, Michael T. Flynn, the first National Security Adviser of Donald Trump's administration, is history.
For different reasons, a lot of observers believe that Flynn's firing is a scandal. And it's true, a lot of questions still need to be answered.
However, Flynn's hiring was the real scandal.
Flynn, a once both well-known and infamous military officer, didn't just have ties with Russia. He became famous for peddling his extreme anti-Muslim worldview and Islamophobic conspiracy theories.
Like other members of Trump's administration, Flynn regularly spread prejudices and hatred towards Muslims. According to him, the fear of Muslims is even "rational". "Islam is not a real religion, but a political ideology masked behind a religion," Flynn once claimed.
The fact that Flynn's views didn't disqualify him automatically to get such an important job in the middle of the power center of the United States just proves another time how deep Islamophobia is rooted in the Trump administration.
