How The EU Wants To Get Rid Of Afghan Refugees

During the Munich Security Conference, the EU and the Afghan government signed a cooperation pact regarding the deportation of Afghan refugees.

Earlier, in October 2016, both the EU and Kabul signed an agreement that saw the deportation of an unlimited number of rejected Afghan asylum seekers.

In fact, the deal looked like this: Afghanistan takes back its refugees, and the EU pays billions of euros of aid money.

According to the European Commission, the EU contributes annually more than one billion euros in development funding each year to Afghanistan.

However, what all sides ignore is the fact that Afghanistan is not a safe country, especially not for refugees to return. According to a recent report by the UN, more than 11,000 civilians were killed or injured in Afghanistan in 2016.

One-third of the victims were children.

Afghanistan's reality is war, and has been for almost four decades. Big cities like Kabul, Mazar-e Sharif, Herat or Jalalabad are daily settings of brutal bombings and suicide attacks, while the country's rural regions regularly face military operations and air strikes by the Afghan army and its Western allies.
