Why (We) Millennials Fail At 'Adulting'?

How much do you love procrastination? Especially when it comes to tasks that are not that hard but still haunt you for months on your to-do list.

It doesn't necessarily mean that you are lazy. You do the hard work, but what about the mundane stuff? The answer is you might be edging into burnout. Never getting to the bottom of that list might be a societal failure rather than a personal one.

This podcast is a follow-up of a viral BuzzFeed piece by Anne Helen Petersen, "How Millennials Became The Burnout Generation."

On The Gist (minute 04:30 to 20:00), Mike Pesca talks to Petersen about student debt, the financial crisis, and the biggest burden of all: the mental one.

We were raised with the expectation that our generation would be better off than our parents', but that's not true for many, not only in the U.S.

Adulthood doesn't come with more stability, nor bigger savings or better jobs. Instead, it brings shame for not having any of what our parents had at our age.

According to Petersen, when you are experiencing burnout (because of financial insecurity or whatever), you make stupid decisions. Like postponing simple errands forever.

In an unexpected twist, Petersen and Pesca also discuss the potential role of the Trump administration in this millennial burnout. Anxiety due to fake news, unpredictable decisions, or the possible outlaw of gay marriage are also stressing millennials out.
