Stop Talking About "Developed" And "Developing" Countries

I came across this blog post on LinkedIn and it immediately caught my eye, probably because I am currently studying the issue of development myself, but I thought it was an interesting reflection that shouldn't be ignored.

Bill Gates comments here on Hans Rosling's book Factfulness,   in which he offers a new framework to understand the world. One that divides the world into four groups, rather than in two: "rich countries" and "poor countries."

When those are the only two options, you’re more likely to think anyone who doesn’t have a certain quality of life is “poor.”

A video attached explain's Rosling's new framework in a very simple, visual way. I think that's probably what I liked the most.

How does a house, a kitchen or a toilet look at those four levels of wealth? What's causing that distorting effect in the news that makes us worry more about a plane crash than the other thousands of deaths that happen daily?
