A 100-Year-Old Tattoo Artist From The Naga Minority In Myanmar Tells Her Story

The Kite Tales is a project by two young journalists who traveled around Myanmar and collected stories of ordinary people, as told by themselves.

Here Makui Lainyiu, a woman from Naga – the minority that is now facing decline – sings a song about her people, and tells her life story through her tattoos. She talks about the rituals that surrounded them when she was young, and about how the practice was banned under the military government.
