"Only to care for humans and leave animals behind to die is not civilization, it's darkness" are the words with which vet Amir Khalil starts this heartwarming three minute report.
Amir goes into conflict areas to save the zoo animals left behind and has lead missions in Gaza, Mosul, Libya and Baghdad. During the last mission, to Aleppo, he rescued thirteen wild animals from the ruins of the old city zoo, among them tigers, bears and even a pregnant lioness, animals barely kept alive by locals who risked their lives to feed them with whatever little meat they could buy.
Yet, why save animals instead of humans? This is constantly questioned. Animals are the victims of the victims, the first to be forgotten and the last to be cared for. But differently from human victims, if Amir Khalil doesn't rescue these beings, no one else will.
