New York's Peer2Peer Trial Travels To Australia

A while ago I mentioned the Brooklyn Microgrid — a virtual Peer2Peer energy trading platform built on blockchain.

Well, some of its solutions have travelled pretty far already.

Mark Yates of South Australian renewables company Yates Electrical Services came to a conclusion that if the Brooklyn system works in the US, it should also work anywhere else. A South Australian trial of a peer-to-peer energy network is set to add 6MW of solar generation in the state.

The director of the operations, Belinda Kinkead, says a “handful” of commercial-size customers will likely be initial participants, to keep the logistics fairly simple at first. “If it’s working we’ll try to expand it more to include residential.”

An interesting read and a fascinating development.
